Is there a difference between Treebraids and Microbraids?

Answer:
  • First, let's identify the style of microbraids in question. This is the style of microbraids that are braided a little then let loose. Yes, there is a difference.

Individual treebraids and microbraids would look alike if treebraids technique did not require pulling hair out along the length of the braid. Doing so makes individual treebraids look more like a weave. Individual treebraids and microbraids only look alike from the back. Individual treebraids last longer than microbraids (the ones that are braided a little then let loose) when: 1. quality human hair is used. 2. The branches of the treebraids can be used to camouflage the growth at the scalp.

Question:
Why do I lose a lot of hair when I remove my braids?

Answer:
  • Lack of proper moisturisation of the scalp and hair shaft before braiding the hair.

  • Lack of proper conditioning when the braids were in your hair, and to a much lesser extent, after removing the braids.

  • Braids were braided too tightly.
This causes the hair follicles to become loosened or even uprooted from the scalp. You will know if you have the latter worst case scenario if you see little white things forming around a braid. Examine them- they are known as hair follicles. A hair follicle is the root of your hair, the equivalent of roots for a tree. Uproot the tree by its roots, and the tree is dead. Once uprooted from your scalp, there is no way to re-grow or re-attach those hair follicles- it becomes dead hair.

  • Dead hair from hair braiding
However, this dead hair is trapped by the braid- once you remove the braid, the dead hair either falls away with the braid, or is stuck in the knots at the base of a braid. Once you comb the knots out, the dead hair follicles fall out of the braid. If you are washing your hair while removing knots from having your hair braided, the dead hair washes down the drain. Immediate hair loss.

  • Broken hair from braids
You will find that some of the hair that combs out into the comb does not have hair follicles- they are easy to spot- its just hair, with no white little things on one end. This means this type of strand of hair was broken from the main hair shaft. This can happen if hair is dry, or brittle, if hair is originally permed, or over processed with chemicals.

Though the process of discovery that one has hair loss from braiding is brief, the start of hair loss actually took much longer to happen, and the effects are even longer lasting.

  • Had braids before, and have properly moisturised and conditioned the hair and scalp, but still have unusual breakage? Examine your life for stressors that are usual suspects. You may need to see a physician for any unexplainable hair loss.

  • Help to stop and prevent hair murder! If hair loss occurs around the edges of your hair- especially around the front and sides, it adds 10, 15, even 20 years to your look.

Question:
Do braids break off hair?

Answer:
  • Please read above: 'Why do I lose a lot of hair when I remove my braids?'

  • Additionally, if your hair is chemically changed, such as with a relaxer and/ coloring, the hair will always be weaker than virgin or kinky hair, so heads up. Unless medium micros or braids were braided into your hair, if you have small micros in combination with permed hair, do not leave the braids in too long. Nevertheless, prevention from hair loss is better than a remedy. We specialize in natural, non-chemical styles designed to improve and enhance the strength, moisturisation, health, and growth of your hair.
